Flooding In Australia A Natural Disaster In Progress

Flooding in Australia: A Natural Disaster in Progress

Evacuations and Warnings as Heavy Rainfall Continues

Flooding is a natural part of Australia's ecosystem, benefiting some environments and boosting dam inflows. However, it can also lead to substantial damage.

Currently, approximately 18,000 people have been evacuated due to severe flooding in New South Wales (NSW), and heavy rainfall is still forecasted. Regions in eastern Australia, which have been severely affected by the worst floods in decades, have finally seen some relief with clear skies. However, flood evacuation warnings remain in place.

Ongoing Flood Impacts and Predictions

Over the next few days, rain and widespread flooding are expected to affect much of eastern and southeastern Australia. Meanwhile, flooding persists in parts of Victoria.

According to a Climate Council report, the ongoing floods in Queensland and New South Wales are poised to become one of Australia's worst natural disasters.
